Please read before updating Photoshop

stopsign.jpg

Adobe just announced that tomorrow, June 18, they’ll be sharing what’s next in the Creative Cloud. We’re anticipating that they will be launching a new version of Photoshop CC tomorrow, or very soon after. If that’s the case, it may affect how it runs with the current version of the Kubota DASHBOARD, along with many other plugins. Don't worry, we are on it and are committed to providing a working DASHBOARD for you that is fully compatible with the latest versions of Photoshop.

With that said, please bear with us, and hold off on updating your Photoshop CC, just for a little while, so that we can ensure your workflow will not be interrupted. If you have any questions, please let us know.

UPDATE:

If you haven’t heard, Adobe released an update this week for Adobe Creative Cloud, CC 2014. Although all the updates sound fantastic, the plugin system in the new Photoshop has changed. The current version of the Kubota DASHBOARD, along with many other plugins, will not work with this new version of Photoshop. We're hard at work building a new version of the Kubota DASHBOARD that will be compatible with the new Photoshop and will be a free upgrade for all our users.

With that said, feel free to install Photoshop CC 2014, but please do not uninstall Photoshop CC, as you will need to continue to use that version of Photoshop to use the Kubota DASHBOARD. When the new DASHBOARD is ready for Photoshop CC 2014, we will send out an email notification. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Blog Post: Troubleshooting the DASHBOARD

We've discovered an issue this morning with some of our customers having their DASHBOARD not communicating fully with our server. This could mean not all of your actions are visible upon opening the DASHBOARD. One thing we recommend is to make sure your DASHBOARD 4 is the most recent version which is 4.0.448. You can download the latest version from our website here for free. If this does not solve the issue and you are still experiencing an issue, please submit a support ticket which allows us to see what is going on behind the scenes of your DASHBOARD. To submit a support ticket please go to the upper right hand corner of the DASHBOARD and from the drop down menu select "Submit Support Ticket".  Once you have submitted the ticket, we will have your contact information and be able to get in touch with you as soon as we have a resolution. We appreciate your patience while we resolve this issue.

What Does Activations Exceeded Mean?

A question we hear often is, “how many computers can I use the DASHBOARD 4 on?”. The answer is 2 at a time, so what that means is you could be using it on your laptop and desktop at the same time. If you have another computer you would like to use them on you can install the DASHBOARD on it as well, log out of the DASHBOARD, on say your laptop and then you will be able to use it on another computer.

If you have the DASHBOARD installed on multiple computers and receive the “Activations Exceeded” message you may need to log out of the DASHBOARD on one of your other computers. You can do this by going to your DASHBOARD and at the top right hand corner, from the drop down menu select “Log Out. If you are only using the DASHBOARD on one or two computers, it’s not really necessary to logout. If you receive an “Activations Exceeded” message and don’t have any other computers logged on or the other computer has crashed feel free to email info@kubotaimagetools.com or call us at 1.877.330.4330 and we can deactivate the old one immediately for you.

Before you do any Photoshop updates, check with us.

If you depend on the Dashboard for your daily workflow, like most of our users, then it's always a good idea to check with our customer service, or peek at our latest news and blog posts, whenever a new Photoshop update happens. Sometimes there will be changes in an update to Photoshop that require changes to plugins (any plugin) as well to ensure they are still 100% compatible. Usually those changes are subtle and can be implemented at or around the same time the update to PS comes out. Sometimes it takes a little longer to implement and we don't want your workflow to be interrupted.

So do yourself a favor and don't jump on updates to any major software before you check around to see that your most used software will still be compatible! This is good advice for operating system updates as well.

Batch processing and customizing actions with the Dashboard

Are you a power user? Love to Batch process multiple images automatically with your favorite Dashboard effects? Do you frequently make adjustments to an effect to fine tune it to your liking and want to save the resulting new effect? Do you frequently combine more than one effect together and want to save your combo as a 1-click effect? You can do all this with our latest Dashboard.

The key is to export your desired Dashboard effect(s) to your normal actions palette via our handy menu tool. From there, you can batch process, modify, or combine the action with any other actions just as you normally would with Photoshop actions.

Part One: Save a Dashboard effect to your regular actions palette.

  1. Select your desired Dashboard effect, then choose "Export Action" from the Dashboard settings menu.
  2. Find the action on your actions palette under the folder, "Kubota Batch Actions"
  3. Batch process as you normally would any standard action. (See Photoshop help for how to batch process for more info)
Select your effect then Export it as an action to your standard actions palette.

If you want to modify this action, or combine it with others, drag it out to a new folder before you do. If you save this same action again, it will OVERWRITE the current one inside "Kubota Batch Actions"

Part 2: Modify a Dashboard effect and save it as a new effect.

After saving an effect to your actions palette, you can modify it to your hearts content. For example, you might find you like an effect, but with the strength dialed down a little bit. You can save this combo as your own formula, make it into an action, then use the Dashboard to search for and control it as normal.

  1. Export the effect to the actions palette as above.
  2. Move the resulting action to a new folder of your own and rename it e.g.
  3. Run the action effect from the actions palette once.
  4. Select the last step in the exported action, then click "record" on the actions palette
  5. Make your modifications
  6. Stop recording
  7. Open your Dashboard Settings menu
  8. Select "Load User Actions"
  9. Search for and apply your new custom action.
Create your own folder and drag the action in there, then rename it something unique.

Of course, you'll want to run your new action via the Dashboard so you can use its snappy search and cool paint features. Go to the settings menu in the top right corner of the Dashboard.

To make a new action that is a combo of several actions:

  1. export them as above
  2. drag each one of the "script" steps from the action in to your desired custom action. The script step is the actual Dashboard effect, self-contained. To see which effect it is, open the palette wide, click the triangle, and look at the end of the text.
  3. repeat and re-order the effects as desired. You can also combine this with your own hacks, as shown below.
Give your custom action combo a unique name then drag whatever Scripts you want from the Kubota Batch Actions folder. Here, I used Anime Bold, then recorded reducing it to 50%, then added KubotaHiDef. Blammo, new custom effect!

DASHBOARD for Photoshop update is 3-in-1 and free.

We've been working really hard on our latest version of the Dashboard 4 Pro for Photoshop® and now it's even better! We've now combined our Action Dashboard, Borders and Textures Dashboard, and AutoAlbum Dashboard in to one slick panel where you can tab quickly between the different tool sets. It's more compact and easier to use. But wait, there's more...

The Dashboard 4 Pro is a free Photoshop plugin that allows you to quickly search through all of your actions and launch them instantly. It also gives your own actions super powers, like one-click undo and paintability! The free Dashboard includes a collection of our groovy image enhancing and time saving actions. You can demo any of our other award-winning actions, or our borders and textures, immediately and purchase if you want to. There is no catch. You can continue to use the Dashboard and the essential tools for free, forever. It would be silly not to try it, so download it now!

This is the original, and most powerful Photoshop Action and Effect manager available.

The Dashboard now combines all tool palettes in to one.

We've added some other cool features too:

  • Super Search! Normally, when you search, you can limit your searches to a certain category by using the category drop down menu. With Super Search, just type the * character at the end of your search and it will search everything, everywhere!
  • Home button – one click to return to your All Actions category
  • Customizing! – Our actions were made to be flexible and customizable. All layers are kept in tact for your tweaking pleasure. Now, if you have a favorite way of modifying our actions, you can save our action with your modifications to the actions palette as a new action. Since the Dashboard reads all actions in the actions palette, your custom creations are also available via the Dashboard too!
  • Batch Processing – Using the customizing feature, you can now batch process with any effect. Just export it to your actions palette and use the standard Photoshop batch processing tools!
  • Better organized categories – general use categories are at the top, followed by a category for each of our action sets.
  • Mini previews – our effects include miniature sample previews so you have a visual idea of what each action does!
  • New graphics and sizing options make the Dashboard a welcome addition to your Photoshop workspace.

This update is free to all our existing users and new users can also get the Dashboard 4 Pro free to control their actions or use our essential tools set. We currently have the default and carbon fiber skin designs available, but will soon have many more! What could be better than that? OK, fine, chocolate covered bananas are pretty good too.

Watch the video at the end for an overview of how powerful the Dashboard is and how it is used.

The new DASHBOARD comes in the default skin and my personal favorite, carbon fiber. You can install either one. More fun skin designs on the way!

DASHBOARD help is now easier then ever: look in your options menu

You can now submit a help request directly to our team from within the Dashboard. Just visit the options menu, in the top right corner, and select "Submit Support Ticket". This is the best way to contact us for support as it goes directly to our support team and will automatically include an important log file from your computer and Dashboard so that we have detailed information to help us troubleshoot. Never fear, nothing personal or revealing is submitted, unless you want to write a love note in your message ;-)

DASHBOARD update & fun skins now available!

Be sure to keep your dashboard updated as we are actively adding new features and little fixes. It's easy to update: you'll get a notice when you log in that there is an update available. Switch to Adobe Extension Manager for the version of Photoshop you are using and you'll see your Dashboard plugin, with an option to update your plugin. Do it!

You can now choose between the Classic Dashboard or one of our fun new skins. We currently have Carbon fiber, Leopard, Blue Floral, and Pink Floral. More cool designs will be coming too. You can easily install a skin and switch to another later. Just install the appropriate skin .zxp file in Adobe Extension Manager and restart Photoshop. Bam!

DASHBOARD Tip: Create your own keywords to find faster

You can click the Customize button, with any action selected, to add your own keywords and descriptions to actions and effects. These keywords are included when you search. For example, you can add the keyword “seniors” to all the actions you love to use for senior portraits, then use the search for “seniors” to quickly see this list at any time.

Dashboard Tip: Add a hotkey to open and close the DASHBOARD

If you want to quickly launch or hide the Dashboard, a hotkey is the way to go. This is also very helpful when you run an action that asks you to paint in something as soon as it’s done. With the hotkey assigned, you can run the action, hit the hotkey to hide your Dashboard, then resize the brush or paint right away on the image without the panel obscuring your view. I’ve assigned my F1 key to launch/hide my Dashboard. Here’s how:

1. Double check that you have the “Activate Kubota Dashboard” script installed. This should be automatically installed when you installed your Dashboard. If you don’t see it, contact us for help re-installing. It lives in the File > Scripts menu. See below:

2. Edit your keyboard shortcuts by going to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts

3. Find the “File” menu, click the triangle to reveal the items below, then scroll down:

4. When you see “Activate Kubota Dashboard”, click in the shortcut column and assign your hot key. If you pick one that Photoshop already uses, you can override it or select something unique.

5. Click “Accept” to save the new hotkey, then close the dialog. When you go to File > Scripts menu again, you should see your hotkey next to the script.

6. Test it out!
