Holiday Gift Guide part 8

By Cali, Designer

Hello, I have been with Kubota Image Tools for about four months now. I have been married for 10 months...and have yet to order my wedding album nor any large prints. So now that you know I am a major procrastinator, you must assume that I have also procrastinated in getting my holiday wish list created in time to give to those who still love me (even though I will probably show up 10 minutes late to our holiday gatherings and be carrying a pie that I did not bake.) Yup, you heard right, I don't bake. So I cannot even blame my tardiness on the fact that my pie had to cool a bit longer before leaving.

Anyway, here are a few items that I would love to receive if anyone is still shopping this late in the game. The first would be Metal Prints from White House Custom Colour. I would love to have a few of our stunning wedding photos printed on these in a variety of sizes. I also want to mention that according to their website, they say these can be difficult to hang without the help of a gatorboard block, so one of these would be helpful to receive with the prints as well. Now being that due to the late delivery of my wish list, you can no longer order this for me and get it back in time to wrap. However, you can always print out an image of the metal prints, wrap that up with a note saying to be delivered at a later date and I will still be oh so happy. (You might have guessed that I have used this option before when giving gifts because I am also a late shopper.)

Another item on my wish list is a new camera. My husband and I like to travel and carry a camera around every where we go, although we are in no way professional photographers. We would like a smaller "pocket sized" camera to take with us on all our outdoor adventures. It also needs to have waterproof capabilities because it will definitely be at the beach with us, and up on the mountain while snowboarding. We are not easy on our cameras, so that is why I am asking for a Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS Digital Camera. The words waterproof, shockproof, crushproof and rugged all appealed to me right away. Then I read the reviews at B&H and they were all pretty positive, with one stating, "Great for those who play hard." I think this camera will work well for our next adventure.

So you are probably thinking that wow, this girl asks for expensive gifts. Well I called this my wish list. I also know that there are so many people wishing for things that we take for granted every day such as health, a warm place to sleep and food and water. So my final wish list gift request, is to ask everyone to remember others less fortunate and to give back. You can still do this by ways of Photography because it is an art, a gift to give to others. We are lucky to live in a time that allows such a powerful tool that can benefit anyone and everyone. Most of us would rather have more time with our loved ones, or are remembering the ones we lost and would give anything to spend just one more day with them in place of any material gift. So what better gift than taking photos of people in need and giving them the gift of a memory captured?

There are charitable organizations that help us all to be able to do just that. I know that Team Kubota does this every year locally with Family Photo Day, so by joining a local charity like this might be a good place to start in your own community. However, I found this great organization, Help-Portrait, where every year in December, photographers around the world will be grabbing their cameras, finding people in need and taking their picture. When the prints are ready, the photographs get delivered to them. How great is that! I am not a photographer, but would love to help out with a project like this in any way that I can and ask that you all join me in giving back this holiday season. I have a hunch that we will all enjoy that time spent and it will impact us all so much, that we will continue giving back throughout the year.

Happy holidays everyone! Pay it Forward.
