Oasis grill in Kapaa, Kauai

Oasis grill in Kapaa, Kauai

Great setting on the beach. This restaurant got all 5 star reviews on yelp. We came for happy hour, so didn't get the full menu, but we'll probably come back.

The bloody was nicely balanced with just the right amount of horseradish, spice, and rock salt on the rim.

Roy's in Kahana, Maui

Well, don't need to say much about this restaurant. Its one of my favorites. Roy has restaurants all over the world and we have visited many of them. They not only have consistent, delicious, Hawaiian fusion food, but fantastic service and aloha spirit that is always warm and welcoming.

The Bloody was good. A slightly sweet blend with little spice, salted rim, and pleasant flavor. Very drinkable, if not memorable.

Rockin Daves in Bend, OR

A great new breakfast, bagel, lunch, bloody Mary joint. I had the small breakfast burrito, which was big, and it was yummy and only $5! Both kids loved the place too, which is rare. The folks that work there are super friendly too, which is very important first thing in the morning!

The bloody Mary was hand crafted with hints of pickle juice, pepper juice, and other tasty ingredients. Very spicy an bold!

Budweiser & Clamato

OK, this is a bit weird. I walked into a convenience store to grab a juice after a wedding and saw this on the shelf. I had to laugh at how disgusting it sounded, but then I realized I actually had to try it or I would die of curiosity. I bought one. It was oddly refreshing, albeit too salty for regular drinking. I couldn't drink the whole can. It reminded me that I had had a bloody Mary made with beer once a long time ago in Portland, OR. I didn't care much for that one either. It was an interesting experiment and it reminded me of the days as an adolescent when my dad and I would challenge each other to order the weirdest things on the restaurant menus.

Big Tom Tomato Juice

I saw this bottle at, of all places, a mens clothing store in Bend. It was a prop on a table and I asked the salesman where I could buy some. They can be ordered online at www.bigtombeverages.com, but he just gave me a couple of small sample bottles!

The ingredients looked promising - all natural, with interesting things like garlic, cumin, and corriander. So, I mixed it up with my favorite Crater Lake pepper vodka and some del Sol olives. It was quite tasty, but not quite as bold as I had hoped. It wasn't as spicy either. I think a dash of Dimitri's seasoning and some clam juice would take it to another level. Some ratings left out cause I made it myself and skimped on the garnish. Flavor 6

Ceaser at Brentwood Lodge in Vic

Not much beats a Ceaser at poolside in a lovely resort spa. I love Ceasers (essentially a Canadian style bloody Mary made with Clamato juice instead of tomato) for the light, fresh flavor. This one was really yummy and refreshing. Nothing fancy, in a poolside safe plastic cup, but oh so tasty

A wee bit on the salty side, despite the flavor salted rim. Spicy pickled beans topped it off

I must admit, the ILQ was somewhat influenced by external environmental conditions and company.

Fork & Vine in NY

This little hidden restaurant was a nice surprise and the food and atmosphere were great. I especially enjoyed the company! :-) It had a nice weighting of seafood options, including a soft shell tempura crab dish I enjoyed. The small plate appetizers were very tasty, especially the Ahi tuna tartare.

The Bloody Mary, alas, was quite plain. Served in a wine glass, it started off oddly. The flavor did not evoke repulsion or distaste, but rather an overwhelming sense of nondescriptness. It was fine, drinkable, but un-memorable.

The ultimate DIY Bloody Mary kit

The ultimate DIY Bloody Mary kit!
Some great friends just presented me with this amazing array of Bloody Mary fixins. I can't wait to dig and start blending. Some of my favorite olives were included as well as some other less expected salad bar quotient items.

Balsamic? Hmmm, we might be on to something...dried shrimp? You never know...anchovies? Now it's getting interesting.

I'll be posting some concoctions from this basket soon :-)

BLT Fish in NYC

A stellar fish place with great food but mediocre service. The Bloody Mary was oddly one of the worst ever. I couldn't even finish it. We had to ask for a bottle of Worchestershire (3 times) and salt and pepper just to spice it up to be almost drinkable.

Fortunately the company was wonderful enough to make the lackluster drink less significant.

This was a nice steak and seafood joint right on the waters edge. Melanie found it for us - which make 2 great restaurant finds in a row!

The bloody, unfortunately, was less than memorable. Not bad, but not a reorder item.

A sweet and spicy, rich, thick and tasty! A fairly strong horseradish flavor tempered nicely with sweetness. Very unique and extremely drinkable! Very dangerous. Could use a bit more condiment to compliment the great flavor.

Botanika in St. Petersburg Russia

We found this vegetarian restaurant Botanika whil in St. Petersburg and it was very cute and had a nice atmosphere. The waitress looked like Jules! The food was good and the had everything from borsch to Indian food. The bloody Mary, which was on the menu, was simply tomato juice and vodka. Pretty basic but comforting. The celery, however, wa the saddest thing I've ever seen!

A Greek and Italian restaurant that has decent food and is kid friendly :-) The Bloody had a nice flavor, although possibly a redi- mix. Tastes a bit like Mrs. T's with a dash of extra spice.

Pan Africa Restaurant and Bar Seattle

This place was a real score! An unassuming storefront with an ecletic menu that drew us in! Northern African, but with delicious curries, spicy fish and rice and even pancakes with coconut and plantains! Everything was delicious. Highly recommended if you are an adventurous eater :-)

When one of the 3 specialty drinks on the menu is a Bloody Mary, I am destined to try it. The bloody Mary had a secret family spice that gave it a wonderful and unique flavor. The bartender said they actually have a complete bloody Mary menu coming soon. I can't wait! A variety of unique olives topped it off and it really hit the spot!

Terra Cotta Red In Everett, WA

A pleasant surprise! Found this place on Yelp! And it lives up to the consistent 4 star ratings it got. Delicious Asian fusion that just hit the spot. Very eclectic and wonderfully tasty.

Holiday Inn In Everett, WA

The Pine Street Grill in the hotel has a pretty decent BM. They certainly aren't generous in the size of the thing - reminds me of an airline drink. But it was pretty tasty. At least it had a good "pour". Plain salted rim, and generic flavor are always safe bets, If not memorable. The little plastic sword through the olives made it higher on the ILQ.

I was here to speak for the Pro Photographers of Washington and had a nice dinner with some of the directors.
